HZAU’s Japanese Professor Stands with Wuhan to Fight NCP

Kenichi Tsuda, HZAU’s Japanese Full-time Professor, stays on in Wuhan, Hubei Province, amid the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) outbreak. Up to January 30, Japan’s evacuation flights have brought back more than 400 Japanese people from Wuhan. However, he encourages his colleagues, “I have politely refused the evacuation and will not leave Wuhan. I am sure that we can make concerted efforts to tide over difficulties arising from the novel coronavirus. Go, Wuhan!” When it comes to the reason, he responds:“ My Chinese students still work in the laboratory. I can not leave my colleagues and students behind and return to Japan.”

Professor Kenichi Tsuda researches into plant immune signaling network at HZAU’s State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology. He is a prolific researcher and has published more than 60 research papers in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), The Plant Cell, EMBO reports, PLOS Genetics, and other high-level academic journals.

Since the outbreak of NCP, HZAU has cared about Kenichi Tsuda and his family, and provided masks and protective items for them. He believes that China has the capability to win the battles against this outbreak. Jim Byung-Rae, President of HZAU Korean Alumni Association and Dong-A University’s Professor, and HZAU’s international students also keep faith with China and stand firmly with HZAU, Wuhan and China.
